Terms of use

These terms cover the Siddur Duo app and this website. They are short on purpose: the app is a siddur, not a service, and there is nothing to sign up for.

1. Agreement

By downloading or using Siddur Duo you agree to these terms and to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies to apps obtained from the App Store. Where the two overlap, Apple’s agreement governs the relationship with Apple; these terms cover the app itself. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. Maintenance and support for the app are the developer’s responsibility, not Apple’s.

2. Licence

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms. You may not resell, redistribute, rent or sublicense the app, extract its text or audio files for redistribution, or reverse-engineer it except to the extent that applicable law expressly allows.

The liturgical texts are traditional and in the public domain. The translations, transliterations, layout, artwork and code are the developer’s work and remain protected; quoting a line or two in a review, a class or a conversation is fine.

3. Prayer times

Zmanim are calculated on your device from the sun’s position at your chosen city or GPS location, using astronomical formulas and commonly used conventions. They are estimates, and they can differ by minutes from the calendar your community follows — because of a different convention, a different definition of twilight, or a rounding choice.

The app is not a halachic authority. For matters of practice — when to light, when Shabbat ends, when a fast begins — follow your rabbi and your community’s calendar. If a time looks wrong, check the city and time zone in Settings before relying on it, and please report it.

4. Texts and corrections

The texts are provided as a reading aid. Translations and transliterations are meant to help you follow the Hebrew, not to replace it, and no translation settles a question of law or custom. Mistakes happen: a vowel, a word, a line break. Reported errors are corrected in the next update, and corrections are genuinely welcome at make_value@hotmail.com.

5. Tips

The app is free and complete. The tip jar in Settings is optional: tips are one-off consumable purchases, not a subscription, and they unlock nothing — every service, theme and zman is available whether or not you tip.

  • Payment is processed by Apple under the terms of your Apple account. The developer never sees your payment details.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com, in line with Apple’s policy and your statutory rights.
  • Prices are shown by the App Store in your local currency before you confirm, and are the ones that apply.

6. Availability and changes

The app is offered as it is, and may be updated, changed or — eventually — retired. Features may be added or removed between versions; the app’s core purpose, a siddur that works offline, will not be put behind a paywall. Nothing in these terms obliges the developer to provide a particular feature, a particular version, or continued availability in any store.

7. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of calculated times, or uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss arising from reliance on a calculated prayer time, a translation or a transliteration, or from the app being unavailable. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app, which for the app itself is nothing.

9. Privacy

The app collects no personal data. What is stored on your device, and the one part of the app that talks to Apple, are described on the privacy page.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the developer’s place of residence, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you live.

11. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated when the app changes. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version, and a version that materially changes your rights will be announced in the app’s release notes before it takes effect.
